Author Event: Damien Cregeau

Author Event: Damien Cregeau In-Person

In partnership with the Leffingwell House Museum, Otis Library will host a book talk and signing with local author Damien Cregeau.  He will discuss his new book Portraits of Patriots: Colonel John Trumbull and Five Fellow Patriots from Connecticut in the American Revolution.  Free event; no registration required.  Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing following the program.  Light refreshments will be available.

Profiles of Patriots fills an important gap in the existing literature of the American Revolution.  It looks at the many important contributions of the patriot officers who helped General George Washington and his Continental Army win the war and establish our young nation. The author selected John Trumbull, his artistically talented sister, Faith, and four fellow officers from Connecticut who each served throughout the entire length of the American Revolution, from 1775 all the way to 1783. Their stories are those of selfless service and sacrifice while caring for the needs of their suffering soldiers. In short, this book sheds new light on General Washington’s unsung heroes, the officers of the army who have had little focus until now.

Damien Cregeau earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history. He is a nationally-recognized, independent historian specializing in the American Revolution. He has spoken throughout the northeastern United States since 2007, from Boston and New Hampshire to Washington, D.C.  He has appeared on numerous national podcasts and radio shows over the past five years including Sirius-XM and the Revolution 250 podcast. His presentation on the military leadership of Major General Alexander Hamilton is featured on C-SPAN. He has been published in many magazines and journals, including ten features for the Journal of the American Revolution, as well as Military History Quarterly, Leatherneck, American Spirit, and the Connecticut History Review. Damien is the past president of the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He received the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s History Award in 2021 in recognition for his many important contributions to American History. He and his wife, Pamela, own the General Jedediah Huntington House in Norwich, Connecticut.
