Screening of Norwich State Hospital Documentary In-Person
Otis Library will host a screening of the documentary film Lipstick on the Pig: Rethinking the Legacy of Norwich State Hospital in the library’s Community Room. This 40-minute film, produced by Steve DePolito, seeks to address some of the misconceptions about the Norwich State Hospital. Part One looks at the vandalism that has taken place on the grounds since the close of the hospital in 1996, and its reputation as a haunted asylum. Part Two looks at how the hospital evolved over the years into a reputable psychiatric hospital. Featured are interviews with Troy Rondinone, PhD, author of Nightmare Factories: The Asylum in the American Imagination; Julianne Mangin, author of Secrets of the Asylum: Norwich State Hospital and My Family; and Wally Lamb, author of the novel I Know This Much Is True.
Filmmaker Steve DePolito is a retired Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been producing public access documentaries for the past 20 years. He will be joined by author/historian Christine Rockledge, author of Less Patients, More Patience, and Norwich State Hospital.
Free and open to the public; no registration is required. Otis Library was designed to accommodate people of all abilities. To request an accommodation, please contact Julie at jmenders@otislibrarynorwich.org.
