Photography Book Discussion

Photography Book Discussion In-Person

Otis Library, in partnership with Artreach, Inc. of Norwich, will host a photography book discussion with Mona Penn-Jousset and Coco Olakunle of AtelierMOCA in the library’s Community Room.  Free event; registration required.  Light refreshments will be served.

Join Mona Penn-Jousset, an American writer, educator, podcaster, and filmmaker based in France, and Coco Olakunle, an Amsterdam-based Nigerian-Dutch photographer, filmmaker, and mentor, for a relaxed afternoon dedicated to exploring a selection of the library’s photography books that inspire and provide dialogue.  In this one-hour workshop, participants will explore the role of empathy in photography. Through an engaging talk and discussion, we will consider the responsibility of both the photographer and the viewer in shaping images with care, understanding, and respect. Attendees will gain new perspectives on how photography can serve as a tool for connection, storytelling, and deeper awareness of others.

AtelierMOCA (www.ateliermoca.com) is a collaboration of this creative duo.  They formed MOCA to actualize their shared belief in the possibility of a more positive and connected world.  They have presented at NEOMA Business School, the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Ultrecht School of Art, and many other locations.  Mona was the first lecturer of African descent at the Royal Academy of Art, and has over thirty years of teaching experience in the United States, the Netherlands, and France.  Coco brings a vibrant, global perspective from her work across Europe and Africa.

Otis Library was designed to accommodate people of all abilities.  To request an accommodation, please contact Julie at jmenders@otislibrarynorwich.org.
