Norwich's Vietnam War Memorial: A Talk with Tom Burke and Robert L. Howard II In-Person

Otis Library will host a program on the history of Norwich’s Vietnam War Memorial in the library’s Community Room.  Tom Burke, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam and was Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee, will discuss the designing and building of the memorial and the people who made it happen. The memorial, located on the Chelsea Parade Green, was unveiled and dedicated on November 11, 2000.  Also in attendance will be Robert L. Howard II, son of Army Sgt. Robert Louis Howard, who was killed in Vietnam on June 10,1969.  Robert will discuss the difficulties he experienced in losing his father at the age of four, Organization Sons and Daughters In Touch (SDIT) who are the children of deceased/missing Vietnam Veterans, his subsequent trip to Vietnam in March 2003, and his most recent participation in the Gary Sinise Foundation’s "City Adventures."  Mark Marcy, whose brother William Lincoln Marcy is listed on the memorial, will also be in attendance.
