Gatsby in Connecticut: The Untold Story

Gatsby in Connecticut: The Untold Story In-Person

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, has become synonymous with the lifestyle of the rich and famous on Long Island. But what if that connection is false? The argument that the real West Egg and East Egg can be found on the other side of Long Island Sound is brilliantly argued in the 2020 documentary film Gatsby in Connecticut: The Untold Story. Featuring Sam Waterston and narrated by Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey), the documentary was selected by The New Yorker as one of the best movies of 2020.  Join us for a free screening on Saturday, June 1, at 11:30am in the Otis Library Community Room. The program includes a post-screening discussion with the award-winning director, Robert Steven Williams.

The program kicks-off with music from the 1920’s and a brief introduction from the director, Robert Steven Williams. Gatsby in Connecticut is a 70-minute film. Afterward, Williams will discuss the making of the film, including the research conducted, Scott’s sources of inspiration, and Zelda’s role as his muse. He also will show a couple of bonus clips and field questions from the audience. Free program; registration is required.  Snacks will be provided.
