A Living History Portrayal of Charlotte Bronte In-Person
Laura Rocklyn, an actress, writer, and first-person historical interpreter, will portray Charlotte Brontë in the Otis Library Community Room. Drop-in program; no registration required. Light refreshments will be served. This free event, held in celebration of Women’s History Month, is sponsored by the Elsie Brown Fund.
The year is 1853: Charlotte has recently published Villette, her third and most personal novel. The remarkable writer reflects on her extraordinary family, unconventional education, and the life-changing experience in Brussels that inspired her most recent novel. Learn about the hardships faced by single women in the 19th century who attempt to make a living and, possibly, a name for themselves as authors.
Laura Rocklyn holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, an MFA from The Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy for Classical Acting at The George Washington University, and a BA in Theatre and English Literature from Middlebury College in Vermont. She has performed with regional theater companies across the country and is a company member and teaching artist with the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company.
